My Message

Be a Champion for “The CHAMP”
Frank J. Licari, The CHAMP, was a prominent supporter of the Ottawa community, always with a helping hand for others.

In this spirit, donations in memory of The CHAMP will support the Canadian Environmental Health Information Infrastructure (CEHII or see-high for short) to explore the links between multiple environmental exposures and health outcomes. These include a wide variety of conditions including cancers, diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune diseases, child development, neurological diseases and infertility.
Identifying and addressing causes is key to disease prevention, and prevention is the real cure for chronic diseases, including cancer! This project has gleaned national support from prominent researchers, civil society and government ministries. Much more will be outlined at the Memorial Dinner and Dance, for The CHAMP.

The Environmental Health Information Infrastructure (CEHII) project is led by oncologist Dr. Richard van der Jagt. Dr. Van (as Frank affectionately referred to him) worked closely with Frank for more than 15 years until Frank’s passing on September 14, 2017. Dr Meg Sears PhD, co-Investigator for this project, has a long track record of research into how environmental toxins could be better assessed and regulated. It was this mutual interest that brought Dr Sears and Dr van der Jagt together years ago, to co-author a paper on Health Canada’s regulation of pesticides.
